Film Noir - Main Task - Editing One

We started Editing last week, Since then we now have our audio in sync with our video using a camera to record with. This have given the short film  professional sounding audio. I did have concerns about the audio, i was worried that we might not have got it to sync and get it to sounds correctly.

Film Noir - Storyboard

Pre-production Progress Diary entry - Main Production - Film Noir

We have completeed all of our pre-production. We are still runnijng behind schedule however as we are yet to film our film. We have booked out the cameras and lights to be able to film this week. We should be finished and would've started to edit it by the start of next week.

Lighting Work Shop - Main Task - Film Noir

In film Noir only one light is used at a time.

All videos use some sort of light, whether it be natural light (sun) or artificial light. The goal of the video lighting is to choose the best source(s) to achieve your goal. First and foremost you need enough light and you need to be able to identify sources.

Natural Light causes shadows. Film Noir must have shadows.

1st thing to do - Identify which source(s) of light you want to use.

What sort of mood the movie is, relates to the lighting.

- Never use a lighting kit without surge protectors
- Never change the bulb
- Work at height (your working height level)
- Do not shake the red head
- Power lead has to hang down from the red head
- Make sure the barn door is level with leg
- Never use lights outside
-Surge protectors press yellow, red then yellow button
Never use an extension lead
- Just when you re about to turn the lights on shout "don't look in to the lights"
- The light needs to be at least 1m away from the roof
- If you can put your hand on the red head for more than 5 seconds, you re ready to pack the kit away

Year 12 Preliminary Task - Filming Of Mistakes

The filming of Mistakes went very well in my eyes.We are happy with the end product of the film and some of the shots that we managed to execute during the filming. We managed to complete our filming within the time which we set, this allowed enough time for Ryan to complete the editing to a high standard. The actors arrived on time which helped a lot as it gave us a bit more time to get the multi-camera system set up just how we wanted it. However, we are not entirely happy with how our filming went. We had to re-shoot a lot of scenes due mistakes and errors by us and the actors. This ended up being more time consuming than first anticipated. Furthermore, we did miss one shot out which we very much would of liked to have included. The shot is a view of the actor's hands where he is struggling to get free from his bonds as he was in a hostage situation. However, the shots flow very well which helps to give it a better atmosphere. All in all, we are very happy with the end product.

Year 12 Preliminary Task - Poster

Year 12 Preliminary Task - Team Work

I feel myself and Ryan have worked as a team very successfully. We contributed to the film equally and kept a good standard of communication throughout the task. We came up with a lot of different idea's with many different scenarios. We shared the roles of this task equally and fairly. Ryan came up with the shot list, edited and directed our film. I wrote the script, storyboard, designed the poster and acquired actors. We also worked together to over-come problems that were encountered. For example, a location for our film turned out to be the biggest of problems for us. We worked together to fix this problem. We found an adequate location. Furthermore, we found it difficult to get actors to act when we wanted. We found a suitable time and place, and also we both changed the script to fit around the resources at our disposal.

Year 12 Preliminary Task - Benefits of Using a Tripod and Multi Camera

Tripods are very important piece of equipment. They help a lot when trying to capture important shots for the movie. A tripod can be the difference between a good scene and a great scene.

They offer a wide variety of different shots:
- Dolly
-Tracking Shot
-Pedestal
-Pan
-Tilt
-Roll

These shots are used most effectively using a tripod because they all involve a lot of movement.

Considered a vital piece of equipment, tripods are also used to get stable and professional looking shots.Without a tripod, shots could look unbalanced and cheap. It provides the camera man with the stability needed to execute the shots needed with a quality standard.

A hugely important part of making films is using a multi camera setup, as it offers a slick and professional look to the film, it allows the film to have the most effective and dramatic scenes when possible. Furthermore, it's a huge time saver as it shoots a scene from 3 different angles. This can save up to hours of extra filming time.

When I filmed my first movie 'The Chase', a tripod was not used and throughout the entire film it was shaky and looked unprofessional. During the filming of 'Year 12 Preliminary Task - Mistakes', a multi camera setup was used with tripods. The quality was a lot higher and had a more professional feel to it. I will remember to use both of these in all my future films to improve them and hopefully achieve a professional look.
